Halloween Decorating Tips by Shabby.

With spooky season upon us, it is time to start getting your home autumn and Halloween ready! Traditionally Halloween decorations are bright, loud, tacky and
often disposable, and let’s face it, children love nothing better than some large, loud in-your-face decorations at any time of year. These decorations have
certainly had had their place and it wouldn’t have been Halloween without them. However, with an increasing awareness of the environmental impact of such
décor and a desire to buy long lasting quality pieces which are multipurpose or can be re-used year upon year, there are now some fabulously stylish and high-
quality Halloween pieces to be found. You can still have Halloween but with a classy, cool and eco-friendly twist.

You may be wondering quite where to start with a new Halloween theme, but do not despair we are here to help! Your front door is an easy and great place to start. There are some stunning autumnal wreaths available online, choose a realistic but faux wreath in beautiful colours of Autumn, for an autumn piece that can be reused year after year. This can be hung any time from mid-September and whilst it will look perfect just as it is, if you have children then it is so easy to add some cute Halloween touches in October! Perhaps as a new half-term tradition, your little ones could get involved with making some little Halloween themed decorations to add to the wreath. Do make sure to choose materials that will withstand the weather though. If you are less keen on crafting then don’t despair, simply pop to your local Hobbycraft where you will find an abundance of Halloween ready-made craft items that can be added directly to a wreath, or by using pipe cleaners, a glue gun or floristry wire. As Halloween nears, a traditional and beautiful décor theme is to add some pumpkins to your doorway, carved or otherwise, with so many size and colour varieties available you will be sure to make a beautiful, yet simple display. If you do choose to carve them make sure the candles are battery operated in any doorstep creations, to keep any little Halloween trick or treaters safe on their rounds.
Inside the home make your interior feel autumnal and cosy using some carefully chosen accessories. A great idea is to have a Halloween box, stored in the cupboard or loft, which is brought down every autumn and contains your favourite Halloween accessories. Much as we do in December for Christmas, unpacking this box and arranging our autumnal décor soon becomes an annual event, much anticipated and the perfect way to usher in the colder weather and darker evenings. Why not try some beautiful carved grey pumpkin decorations, these make a lovely addition to any coffee table or sideboard. Add some battery-operated fairy lights to the inside of a Pierced Ginger Jar which looks absolutely stunning, and they will see you right through autumn and winter. Try arranging autumnal oak leaf stems to an existing dried floral arrangement. When added to a Ginger Jar it brings the perfect autumn tones. Nothing brings a cosy vibe better than some beautifully warm textured and coloured cushions. Add a snuggly and warm textured throw for extra depth and warmth. Shabby have a range of cushions and the cosiest throws, our personal favourite is the Fawn Faux Fur Throw, which will likely become a year-round addition to your sofa. It is beautifully soft, loved by the whole family and just too gorgeous to only use for some of the year.

Lighting is key to really make your home warm and inviting this Autumn. Add fairy lights to your fireplace, plants and staircase which will twinkle beautifully and see you right through to spring. To bring a Halloween twist to your existing lighting we recommend using smart colour changing bulbs and setting them to spooky colours such as orange, red or green. This is particularly striking when used with the Matt Black Tripod Lamp, when the bulb is set to orange it really does gives an eerie glow to the room!
Many of us have candles adorning our fireplace all year round, for Halloween try adding some pumpkin spice scented candles which not only look fabulous when lit but also smell absolutely delicious. They set a perfect scene for you to sit down, relaxing with a steaming mug of pumpkin spice latte, that favourite autumn treat!

In the kitchen rearrange your storage jars, making sure that the hot chocolate, marshmallows and pumpkin spice are all within easy reach and on display. Bake some Halloween themed cookies and muffins, which look so cute in a stylish cake stand. These look (and smell) so warm and inviting and really bring a Halloween vibe to any kitchen island, especially when styled with a couple of real and ornamental miniature pumpkins!
A great and easy way to bring a seasonal twist any bedroom is to add in Halloween or autumnal themed bedding. For adults the Ginger Waffle Bedding Set looks so inviting and can be paired with some cosy cushions. A lovely bedding set for any child or teenager’s bedroom is our Ghost Tufted Duvet Set. Just add some beautiful or spooky lighting and you will have the perfect Halloween bedroom.

Finally, if you want to add some additional spooky touches to your interior, as October 31st approaches, then add some reusable Halloween garlands or bunting around your home. Bunting can be strung across doorways or windows to set a fantastic spooky scene. This is another opportunity for a family  Halloween craft activity, all you need is some craft supplies and string, oh and a whole load of imagination! There are plenty of ideas and tutorials to be found on the internet, should you need any inspiration or ideas. Alternatively, you could take the easier and tidier option and buy Halloween bunting that is ready made. Whichever you choose this really will bring your Halloween look together perfectly.
Happy spooky season, now get cosy and enjoy!
